Colour without the
smell or the sting
Every colour in all three salons is ammonia free — not a line you have to ask for, the only line we own. O&M and Natulique, foils from $59, and a free consultation before anything is mixed.
What you notice, and what you do not
Ammonia is what most salon colour uses to open the hair so pigment can get in. It works, and it is also the smell, and most of the scalp reaction. There are other ways to do the same job.
- The smell
- UsuallyThe sharp, back-of-the-throat salon smell that follows you home.
- At SatoriGone. It is the first thing almost every new client mentions.
- Your scalp
- UsuallyA sting or a burn that you are told is normal and to sit through.
- At SatoriMuch gentler. If yours has ever reacted, tell us and we patch test first.
- The result
- UsuallyLift and tone, at the cost of the two above.
- At SatoriLift and tone. Blondes, lived in tones and full heads of foils, same as ever.
- What is on the shelf
- UsuallyA premium eco line you have to know to ask for, at a premium price.
- At SatoriThe only colour in the building. There is no other option to upsell you to.
One honest caveat: ammonia free is gentler, not inert. It is still colour, it still has a chemistry, and a scalp that reacts to everything can still react. That is what the patch test is for, and asking for one costs nothing.
Two brands, in all three salons
O&M
Original & Mineral. Australian, ammonia free, and the range most of our lived-in blondes and tonal work is built on. It is also on the retail shelf, so what we finish you with is what you can take home.
Natulique
Certified organic colour, used across the same services. Between the two we can cover a partline of foils and a full head correction without reaching for anything with ammonia in it.
Both ranges are in our online shop , or on the shelf in any of the three salons.
What ammonia free costs here
The same as colour anywhere else on our list — there is no eco surcharge, because there is no other colour to compare it to. Prices below are guides at the three stylist levels.
- Partline of foils from $59
- Quarter head foils from $75
- Half head foils from $135
- Full head foils from $190
- Toner from $28
- Tint, roots from $95
- Tint, roots to ends from $120
Colour is quoted at your free consultation, before anything is mixed.
What does ammonia free colour actually mean for my hair?
It means the colour lifts and deposits without the harsh smell and the scalp sting most people expect from a salon. We use O&M and Natulique in all three salons. If your scalp reacts to normal colour, tell us and we will patch test you.
Do I need a patch test?
If your scalp has ever reacted to colour, tell us when you book and we will patch test you beforehand. Ammonia free colour is gentler, but it is still colour.
Can you fix colour that was done somewhere else?
Usually, and it is what our Principle chairs are for. Corrections and big changes are the work that level is booked for. Book a consultation rather than an appointment, so we can see the hair before anyone promises anything.
Colour is quoted before
anything is mixed
New colour clients start with a consultation, not an appointment. It is free, it takes about fifteen minutes, and it is where you find out honestly what your hair can take.
First visit for colour? Ring the salon instead — we ask a couple of questions about your hair so we book you enough time.
