Ninety five per cent of
what we use never
reaches a bin
Every salon says it is sustainable. Almost none of them will tell you what happens to the foil. Here is ours, material by material, so you can check the 95% instead of taking it.
diverted from landfill

Hair clippings - 01 Every cut, every day
Hair clippings
Swept, bagged and collected, not binned
Hair is one of the biggest things a salon throws out. Ours leaves in a collection bag instead of a wheelie bin. It gets used for booms that soak up oil spills and for compost.
- 02 Ask before we start cutting
Ponytails
Sent on to be made into wigs
If you are cutting off length, we will measure it, tie it and send it away for you. It costs you nothing and it takes the same appointment you were already booked into.
- 03 Sorted at the bench
Foils and colour tubes
Separated as clean metal
A full head of foils is a lot of aluminium. It goes in a metals stream, not general waste. Same for the tubes the colour comes out of.
- 04 Every basin, every wash
Colour water
Filtered before it reaches the drain
What gets rinsed out at the basin does not go straight into the water system. It is caught and filtered first.
- 05 Checked on every delivery
Plastic and paper
Streamed, and cut down at the source
We buy from O&M and Natulique partly because of what does not come in the box. What still arrives gets separated properly.
Cutting your length off? Say so before we start. We measure it, tie it and send it on to be made into a wig, at no cost to you.
How a donation cut worksThe cheapest thing to recycle is what you never buy
Sorting bins is the visible half. The other half is what we let through the door in the first place — the colour on the shelf, and what we do with what comes off your head.

Ammonia free, since 2013What we colour with
O&M and Natulique in all three salons, chosen as much for what does not arrive in the box as for what goes on your hair. No ammonia, less packaging, and no premium tier you have to ask for.
What ammonia free means for your hair -
Free, in the same appointmentWhat comes off your head
If you are cutting length off, say so before we start. We measure it, tie it and send it on to be made into a wig. It costs you nothing and takes the appointment you were already booked into.
How a donation cut works
Ninety five is not one hundred
There is still a five per cent, and we would rather name it than round it away. Some things a salon uses have nowhere to go yet: single-use items that touch skin or colour, the odd delivery that turns up in more plastic than it needed, and anything contaminated badly enough that putting it in a clean stream would spoil the whole bag.
The number moves when a supplier changes what they ship or a stream opens up that did not exist last year, so it is reviewed rather than framed. If you ever see something in our bin that should not be there, tell us. That is genuinely how most of the five streams above started.
Sustainable is a claim.
A haircut is a booking.
Every chair in all three salons runs the same way — ammonia free colour, five sorted streams, and a ponytail sent on if you are cutting length off.
First visit for colour? Ring the salon instead — we ask a couple of questions about your hair so we book you enough time.
