Hey gorgeous! Ready to find the haircut that truly makes you shine? At SATORI Hair, we believe your hair should be your ultimate accessory, perfectly complementing your unique features. This guide will help you discover the styles that flatter your face shape, ensuring you leave our salon feeling absolutely stunning.

First, let’s figure out your face shape. Grab a mirror and a trusty lipstick – we’re going to do a little detective work!

1. Identifying your face shape

Pull your hair back away from your face. Look closely at your features and the overall outline of your face. Which shape best describes your face?

  • Oval: Your face is longer than it is wide, with a gently rounded chin and forehead. This is considered the most versatile face shape.
  • Round: Your face is approximately the same length and width, with soft curves and a rounded chin.
  • Square: Your face has a strong jawline, broad forehead, and relatively straight lines.
  • Heart (or inverted triangle): Your forehead is wider than your jawline, which tapers to a pointed chin.
  • Long (or rectangular): Your face is significantly longer than it is wide, with a less rounded jawline than an oval face.
  • Diamond: Your face is widest at the cheekbones, narrowing towards a pointed chin and a slightly narrower forehead.
  • Triangle (or pear): Your jawline is wider than your forehead, which is narrower.

2. Choosing the right haircut for your face shape

Now that you’ve identified your face shape, let’s explore flattering hairstyles:

  • Oval face: Lucky you! Oval faces can pull off almost any haircut. Experiment with layers, bobs, long hair – the possibilities are endless!
  • Round face: The goal here is to add length and definition. Layers, side-swept fringes, and haircuts that extend below the chin can help elongate your face and create a more defined look. Avoid blunt bobs that sit right at the jawline.
  • Square face: Soften your strong jawline with soft layers, curves, and longer hair. Side-swept or curtain fringes can also work wonders. Avoid styles that add volume at the jawline.
  • Heart face: Balance your wider forehead with layers that frame your face and add volume around the chin. Long layers or a chin-length bob can help create a more balanced look. Avoid blunt fringes that might emphasise your wider forehead.
  • Long face: The aim here is to add width. A fringe of any kind can shorten the appearance of a long face. Chin-length bobs and layered styles with movement at the sides add width, while very long, straight, one-length hair can draw the face out further.
  • Diamond face: Show off those cheekbones. A fringe softens a narrower forehead, and layers or volume around the chin fill out the lower half. Avoid a lot of height or width right at the cheekbones.
  • Triangle face: Build a little volume through the crown and temples to balance a wider jaw. Layers that start above the chin and soft, side-swept fringes work well. Avoid blunt cuts that finish right on the jawline.
